Happy Mothers Day | Lisa Nikole Photography | Just Lisa

Friday, May 10th, 2013

First to all the mothers out there.. Happy Mothers Day and enjoy your day and even if your child is too young or too forgetful, go do something for you, big or small, make being a mother a big deal to you today.
Lately I’ve been thinking about my mom. My mom passed away last June and we never had that connection most parents do. I adore my kids and love them so much, my mother.. never loved me that much.

But again, my mother was from a generation that shielded their emotions and love. They were a protected female generation and I have to add, I was not the easiest child to raise.

I was also adopted and I feel for some people that parental connection just does not happen, however, to this day I stand a strong supporter for adoption, and USA adoptions are a must for our nation, we have to make it easier and much more affordable to do so.

I transgress….
So this year at Mothers Day, I’ve been thinking. My mother is buried in a grave in Chamption Ohio, actually a very beautiful spot.. right here…

I want to send flowers to her grave, because I want to, not because I have to, or I feel pressured to, but because I want to.

I have two voicemails on my phone from her, the last two speaking messages left to me by her…. And when I listen to them I cry, they touch my soul, because I know, at some point in her life she realized….

Life is to short. We buy, posses, bring, carry, want, have, glout, show off and have such a pride about things we own, and then at the end… we lay in a bed, while family members go through our stuff, they sell it at garage sales and we give it away.

Life is way too short to blow it on material things.

My grandson crys for his lost great grandparents… I hope I make enough impression on my children that they remember me, not for what I own or what I have, but for what we did as a family.. for the memories and for the life we had.

Hug you in heaven one day!

A New Leader For WPPI | Jason Groupp | Lisa Nikole Photography

Jason Groupp  WPPI

I’ve known Jason for a long time.  I’m not sure he knows me as well, but I’ve been to his studio a few times for an amazing fun time after PDN for a celebration or two.

Jason is a gracious man, opening up his studio to all of us.   Maybe he’s just a bit crazy, either or, he’s been fun to watch as he goes from one project to the next.

He’s open and very real, not puffy or built up.  I like reading and watching people like that, to me that inspires.

Well, I guess I was not following him close enough, because I had no idea WPPI was on his heels and he was taking the jump or plunge.

The next thing I know Joel from Adorama is announcing the new leader of WPPI…  Jason Groupp.

The best thing to happen to WPPI so far is the fact that Jason is going to rock the boat and their world.  For us it means excitement.  It’s a fresh start and it’s going to bring us all back to WPPI.  Not that we’ve gone anywhere, but I sure did smile when I heard the news.

Later today I read an article in Rangefinder (great magazine btw) and as I read it.  Well, ho hum, typical, answers, responses… oh yes.. bow ties… but that last paragraph is exactly what the essence of Jason is.

I’m not saying the article is bad or boring, but it’s typical…  Do you see ways to improve?  So you want to bring more fun to WPPI… ?   As you settle into this role…. ?  It’s just typical “get to know the man questions answers”

Then there is the bow tie thing, and you know what… get a copy of rangefinder to read why Jason wears them, I’m not going to divulge it here :-)

As I read through the article it comes to this last question and response, and the absolute essence of who Jason Groupp is and why he’s going to bring so much to WPPI

“  Any last thoughts?

Jason response:

I would like to do something to dedicate this year to Jen Burgess Thompson (diagnosed tin 2011 with ovarian cancer at the age of 36), so keep tuned on taht.  She lived the entire process – from diagnosis to death – with us (on her blog, www.amistillagirl.com).  And that experience truly explains the people that make up WPPI.  We are family.  ”

And THAT is what makes Jason Groupp amazing.  His heart and his soul he’s not afraid to share, to command, control.

I’m excited for Jason, and more excited for WPPI and what it’s going to mean for us as we move forward.

Glasses raised, here’s to a great move.   L’chaim!
