Lisa Nikole | More meaningful

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

I am a Ted Talks junkie. I have the app on my phone and I am continually waiting for updates. Each speaker is given a small period of time, generally 15 minutes to share something meaningful to them. Some influence, some change and most educate. I love Ted Talks!

Last week I was privilaged to hear Bryan Stevenson speak on his topic… I also work in the criminal justice system so, for me I found his talk even more interesting.

Bryan Stevenson, Executive Director of EJI, has won national acclaim for his work challenging bias against the poor and people of color in the criminal justice system. Since graduating from Harvard Law School and the Harvard School of Government, he has assisted in securing relief for dozens of condemned prisoners, advocated for poor people and developed community-based reform litigation aimed at improving the administration of criminal justice. He also is on the law faculty at New York University School of Law.

Bryan talked about injustice, but even in his talk about injustice I found things to help me in my life and in my Photography business. I wanted to share them with you.

Bryan talked about the importance of Identity. He shared how even Ted has an identity, and with Ted’s identity it has allowed hundreds, probably thousands to share their part of the world with millions of others.

Identity is important and he made some special points by saying “If you’re a teacher your words can be meaningful, but if you’re a compassionate teacher they can be especially meaningful. If you’re a doctor you can do some things good, but if you are a caring doctor you can do some other things.”

I ask you… what do you do? If you were more compassionate or caring what could you do better? Fill in the blank: I’m a _______ but if I’m a _________ ________ I can be even better at what I do!

It’s all about the power or Identity. I dendity it’s about who you are, what you are and your power of caring and compassion that will push you over the edge and climb above those that are around you.

Here’s Bryan’s Ted Talk… enjoy and remember to leave my some feedback love!

Lisa Nikole Is Done Doing Weddings!

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

It’s a known fact the wedding industry has been changing for a few years. We have our own camera manufacturers to thank for that. It was a beautiful love affair that ended in the making of consumer end cameras that could make pretty pictures with little or no effort.

a shot of the family pet
snapshots

and born from that is what I call the 500 better or better known in our industry Uncle Tom’s or Aunt Lydia’s.

It’s family or friends that got a wonderful consumer end camera for a holiday, snapped some nice snapshots and decides to enter the world of Professional Photography.

I’ve not joined the band wagon of attack on this phase of our industry but have instead lent a helping hand to new photographers to better their skills, because I know as well as most Pro’s know. that camera without knowledge will become a lethal weapon in a dark chapel or reception hall, a moving bridal party or a white balance that may need to be adjusted.

Lisa Nikole decided to help…

and what Lisa Nikole has found out is… So many couples are happy and content with family or friends shooting their most important event. They save money, they get decent images, why not?

I’ve got pages of why not on my list, but again… Sometimes you have to know when to leave the game, or change the game.

We are always thinking of our couples and we know what is important to them, after talking to many of our couples and listening to people on Facebook or Twitter what couples care about most now are those ever so important portraits of themselves.. the bride and groom. THAT is what matters most to them, so that is what we are going to give them.

Lisa Nikole knows that one thing a new photographer can’t do is pose, a new photographer has no clue how to balance lighting and a new photographer does not have thousands of dollars of equipment that can turn their snapshot into an amazing 20×24 canvas above your fireplace.

What Lisa Nikole knows is she can!

Here is what Lisa Nikole is going to do… Go ahead and let your family and friends shoot your wedding and reception.

Let Lisa Nikole shoot your portraits. You’ll save money and still get what you want. So keep looking at this space, we’ve got some information coming up that will show you exactly what we mean… till then.. enjoy a few images from our past weddings!
