Valentines Day | Joaquin & Ashley | Lisa Nikole Couple Photographers Saint Louis

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Joaquin wanted to surprise Ashley with a special couples shoot and we worked with him to make sure their shoot would be perfect. He made sure Ashley was prepared and they showed up at the Ameristar for their shoot in perfect matching attire.

Both Joaquin and Ashly had a great camera presence. Both starring into the camera and complete into each other when they looked into each others eyes.

Deeply in love, is all I can say about these two and I hope they don’t mind but I wanted to steal their words to each other on their facebook and post them here.

Ashley’s Post:I celebrated valentines day yesterday and I had the best day ever. I was all smiles for the whole night and I am still smiling just thinking about it. I was truly wined and dined last night and was definitely treated like a queen.

Joaquin reply:You ARE my queen. You truly are a gift from God and I’m glad I was able to express and show how much you mean to me yesterday. God is good to me and I’m going to be good to you!

Are you melting yet? If not.. just check out this awesome slideshow and small glimpse into the images we captured for them!

Our Story….

LOVE & BASKETBALL…February 2010, I went to my best friend’s sisters high school basketball at Belleville East, I was sitting with friends and all the while didn’t know that someone was admiring me from across the court. A few weeks later, after picking my son up from school we stopped at McDonalds and I pulled up to check my order and a gentleman walked by, smiled at me and said hello. I said hi and ate some fries. I was about to pull off when he walked to the side of my car and said “Excuse me, can I ask you your name?” I said “Yes, Devon.” I said ” What’s yours?” He said ” Curtis” My son said hi from the backseat, he smiled a waved at him. We talked and I took his number, thought to myself, “he’s cute” and drove off. I never called but weeks later he contacted me on Facebook, I found out that he was my other best friend’s cousin. So I reply and called him that night. At the time I wasn’t looking to date or be in a relationship because I was so focused on my son and work but eventually we went on a date. We closed O’Charleys down and continued to talk on the phone. Months pasted and I didn’t want to like him as much I did, but theres was nothing I could do about it but I still ran. So after breaking it off with him in early April, I still decide to go to a play with him beacuse he had already purchased the tickets. The play was awesome, it touched on some things about life and made me realize that life is too short to not be with someone that you enjoy spending time with. That night I decided that he may be my forever, he had already decided so I was finally on board. So shortly after that I told him that I loved him, yeah I said it FIRST….As a single mother, I am very cautious about who I have around my son. I have a 5 year old son so I knew he was the one beacuse I was finally comfortable letting someone other than his dad interact with him; they took to one another instantly. He’s a teacher and football coach and he loves kids and it definitely locked me in…

The Proposal…

My birthday was Oct. 3rd and we went to breakfast, the mall for some shopping and we were headed to dinner. All along he had planned a Surpise Birthday party for me at House of Savoy in the Lumiere Hotel. So I get there and I’m so surprised that I cry, my parents, other family, friends, my best friend from Chicago flew in just to take pictures. I’m overwhelmed and excited to say the least….Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better a saxophonist comes in playing ” Ribbon in the Sky” I thought that my fiance’ was going to sing or something so I looked at him and then I saw him get up. He walks to get a box and sits it in front of me. He opens is and it says “Devon, Will You Marry Me?” with a ring made of cake. I say yes to the cake and starting crying. He says, “I didn’t ask you anything.” We all laugh, he then gets on one knee and proposing and of course I say YES to him. It was 5 months to day after I told him that I loved him that he proposed. He is my forever. He has my back, loves my son as his own, and is a true man. He is a great father to his children and we complete one another’s sentences. We work well together, we are a team and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him building a life, adding to our family, and impacting our community in East St. Louis and surrounding areas. We share the same passions for youth, community service, and family….

So congratulations to Devon and Curtis

Dream of a time gone by…

A friend of mine sent this slideshow through an email to me, It’s pretty fascinating to see all the old pictures, cars, clothing, hair styles and of course the city I lived in for a few years.. Warren Ohio!

Now I was not raised in Warren, Ohio but I did spend a few years living in the city after I was married and before moving to Missouri. I knew what it looked like then and I always said I would have loved to live in one of the buildings downtown and it would have been way cool to go through some of the vacant buildings.

Oh and, I’m not a history buff at all…

I wanted to share the video with you and then I’d like to share my thoughts with you on it, and I’d love to hear your comments on it also!

So, what did you think? I think I saw that simpler times were happier times. Slower paced was nice, peaceful and less cluttered… When did we get to having bigger, better, badder and more more MORE!

Everyone knows I’m a multi-tasker and I do think I’m pretty good at it. But wow, when I looked at those pictures I actually saw such a peace in such a less full life!

I’ve heard that in the past few years millionaires are chucking it all… getting rid of the million dollar homes, the leather fast super smooth sports cars and opting for a much simpler life. It’s called minimalism and here is a small fact sheet about it:

http://mnmlist.com/minimalist-faqs/

I find it pretty interesting that after years and years of earning and getting and having and wanting and acquiring now.. many are saying… i just want peace, I want quiet, i want…. rest!

I thought about this in weddings and how so many couples go into major debt to get married and I wondered why? Some of the most beautiful weddings I’ve photographed were simple in detail yet surrounded with some amazing loved ones!

Is bigger better?
Is more better?

When I moved to Missouri one thing that I noticed when I visited people here was a simpler life then I was used to in Ohio. They had beautiful homes and they had nice things but their walls and every corner was not cluttered with detail. It was simpler, peaceful, non competitive.

So.. what is your take on a simpler life?

I want to hear from YOU! YES YOU!
