Holly and Jeremy

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I went back home to shoot a wedding of an awesome friend and fun couple. I also used that time to book an engagement session of two really special people: Holly and Jeremy.

Jeremy is my nephew and I was so excited to be asked to cover their wedding as well as this session.

Jeremy has gone through a lot of stages in his life, but to see the care, passion and concern he had for Holly was refreshing. They both have this cute playful side too!

When a couple is so comfortable together and in front of the camera it makes our job that much easier! We had a blast…thanks to Holly and Jeremy for allowing us to capture a part of their life and relationship and to be able to share it with you!

Our session was held at Mill Creek Park, Rose Garden. It’s a beautiful place and a first choice for many couples on their wedding day!

Raquel and I had a fun time walking and photographing Holly and Jeremy and being able to spend some time with them before their wedding.

It’s going to be a beautiful day! Thank you for allowing us to capture these memories for you!

Erica and Jesse – Love

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

This is our first video (be kind) so I threw it up on our blog to let you see just a small (very small) part of how our day starts before we shoot your wedding! Generally it’s getting motivational coffee and tea! Click to view video!

crush-it

This past weekend I went back to Ohio to photograph a wedding of a dear friend. I’ve known Erica a LONG TIME!!! In fact, you may remember the famous picture of her floating in the water during a TTD session here.

Erica and Jesse met at the workplace and from there the road was all smooth sailing. Jesse had always wanted a wife and children from as long as his mother could remember and Erica wanted a good man to care for her and her children. Then it happened. It “clicked”! I’m all about the “clicking”!

I love finding the little stories of how people meet, how they were when they were children and how their special day was formed and created from the time they met until the day I come into their lives and capture their wedding and make it a memory for them.

It’s an honor no matter who I am shooting, but a double honor to shoot family and friends. Thank you Jesse and Erica for allowing Raquel and I to cover your event. Can’t wait to hear how Florida treated you. I KNOW you had a blast!

Nick

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Last weekend I travelled to Ohio to shoot a wedding and had lined up a senior session while I was there.

Nick brought along his mother and his aunt, who happen to be my sister in laws! We shot at Mill Creek Park and had a fun time walking the grounds of the Fellows Garden and talking and sharing.

Nick was easy to shoot. We had to work on that smile but, it was just a matter of time until Nick fell into his comfortable stance in front of the camera. It’s not the easiest thing to be the center of attention and having two photographers shooting you like your some famous football player! But, once we found the key word to make Nick “smile” we were on a roll!

Sometimes as a photographer you need to allow the person to be comfortable in front of the lens, this takes talent from the photographer and once you achieve that, then the natural body placement of an individual is easy to achieve!

Nick was so much fun and even climbed a few trees for us while my sisters-in-laws kept watch… just in case it was against the rules!

We also learned about praying mantis eggs, different 5 pointed leaves and gooseberries. I seriously LOVE when I learn new things!

Thanks Sue, Carol and Nick for allowing us to spend a short part of the day with you to capture Nick for his Senior year in High School!

See you soon:-)

Here’s some shots I pulled to share with all of you!

Totally Rad!!!

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

It’s been over a year I think…maybe a bit more since I was turned on to Totally Rad Actions!

My life changed, for the best! I’m a photographer, it’s what I do and Totally Rad actions help me be a better person and an awesome photographer, PLUS they make my life so much easier!

It started out with Totally Rad, my favorite being “The Grind” out of the 4 actions sets included. Then later on they came out with Totally Rad, the Revenge. What can I say, the battle was on as to what action would go with what and how many cool “recipes” I could make.

With a click of a button, BAM, the desired look I want for an image is there. If I need help there are an array of “recipes” HERE

I can’t say enough about these “actions” that make my life so easy and when Totally Rad asked us to write a blog and link it back to them I’d have a chance to win there new set of Dirty Pictures Textures. ARE you kidding me? YES I’ll blog about you, cuz I love you!

You’re a photographers dream!

My favorite actions has to be….Bullet Tooth and Sparta along with Slice Like A Ninja (sharpen).

Totally Rad! Thank you, for making my day and allowing me a chance to win while sharing the love all about you!

Your awesome and well you know… You’re RAD!!!!!

15 Miles of Honor and Respect

Friday, August 21st, 2009

I love synchronized anything (another diamond for me). Swimming, Cheerleading, dancing, events, military and more. I love to watch large groups react as one!

Motorcycle clubs fit in this category. I love motorcycles. I’ve owned a couple and spent many a weekend at the tracks with my father and his friends as they competed and raced! Because of that time I’ve learned to respect and honor motorcycle clubs and the people that belong to them.

When I see a Motorcycle club riding down the rode I am always intrigued by them, who they are and what they are doing!

I first heard about them in a meeting when a person talked about “being at the right place at the right time”.

The next time I saw them following a young mans body home from Afghanistan.

I was on my way to Ohio for a wedding when I noticed the American Flag hanging from a bridge on an overpass. I saw people standing along side the road and police and fire trucks scattered along the way.

I wondered who could be coming to town, someone very important. I saw homeowners and business men holding flags and waiting.

As I drove the 15 miles of route 79, the anticipation kept growing. Wow, who could be this important, what was going on, i was tempted to stop and wait, but I just kept driving. When I reached the highway I saw police and fireman standing at attention over the interstate. Then coming onto the highway were two black limo’s several police officers on motorcycles and several police escorts. For a moment I thought this must be a politician, but then I saw them… 10-15-25-50, maybe 75 motorcycle members and I knew who they were. I did not know their name but because a person shared just the night before, I knew what they were doing.

When I got home, my newspaper was waiting and right on the front page was the reason they were here. Lance Cpl. Patrick Schimmel served our country and gave the ultimate sacrifice of his life for our freedom. He was 21 and from Winfield Missouri.

All those people were standing to honor him. Those bikers were there to protect and honor and serve him and his family. I wondered more about those bikers and I did a little research on them.

The Patriot Guard Riders!

The Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement says it all. They are all about respect. They don’t care what you believe, or your political views. They care about showing sincere respect for our fallen heroes. They shield the mourning family and friends from any protestors. This is done in a legal, non violent manner.

I’ve seen them, standing with their backs to the crowds. A force to be reckoned with. They are a shield to the mourning!

More and more I’m hearing about the Patriot Guard. I’m not sure if it’s because more of our soldiers are dying or more people are protesting at the funerals. But I am glad in both cases they are there.

I agree with the Patriot Guard and I stand behind our soldiers! No matter what my view is of our government or my religious beliefs I know if a young man or young woman decides to join the military they take the call to protect this nation and follow any orders given to them, then they deserve my utmost respect and honor!

It was a choice to go into any branch of the military… after that it is a service to respect the government they work for and follow all orders given to them, not by choice, not by vote and not by decision. They are told to go, and they go! They are not asked for an opinion. They are told what to do and they do it.

I get upset when I hear about organizations that feel the need to attack a family at the death of soldier. He was serving, it’s what he/she does. It’s what they were trained to do. That solider served so they could have the right to stand and protest and have the freedom to carry signs and not be shot or imprisoned for doing so, as many other nations do.

I’m thankful for each and every soldier and I’m thankful for the Patriot Guard Riders for taking such a strong stand in a difficult time.

I know I often say a blog is not worth it’s words unless a picture is posted, but I have no picture to qualify for a blog such as this…

All I have are my prayers and my thanks to all the current military and former vets.

Thank you! I appreciate what you do!

Was I Up For The Challenge?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I’d love to give Ron Dawson and his Challenge of “Comparison Kills Creativity” campaign the credit for this, but I can’t! Sorry, Ron!

I’ve always challenged myself, I think it’s that “being the only child” thing!

In fact, just like this weekend, I’m heading to Ohio to shoot a wedding and I write a list and compile more then enough work for me to accomplish before I go, and while I’m there, another list is started of things I need to do when I get back home. It’s how I roll! More then that, it works for me!

I shoot weddings and I LOVE what I do. I’ve been doing it for 7 years and it never NEVER gets old. There is nothing as beautiful as a bride on her wedding day, nor the look on her grooms face when he first sees her walk down the aisle towards him. NOTHING compares to those moments!

I always challenge myself at every wedding, one way or another.

Then came this new challenge, right outside my window. I was dragged…errr moved to Missouri, from the city to the country. Talk about culture shock!!! Now I love nature, but, I think I always enjoyed going to look for it, not it coming up and knocking on my window!

I put up these hummingbird feeders, not sure what to expect as I sat in my office and watched these cute little FAST birds. I wanted to know if I could capture one in motion. Could I do it? I knew I had the right equipment, the right knowledge, but could I do it? The challenge was on.

I went to the internet and saw the crazy lengths people went to to catch the shot. I did not want to do that, I just wanted to hold my camera and “get that shot” So I tried…
img_6042w

and tried again…
img_6044w

Good huh? Not really and not good enough… still more… I tried standing in the doorway…
img_7586wimg_7591wimg_8261w

I thought about giving up…then a friend suggested a wireless remote, so I bought one and I waited, it came, and it was broken..I did order another one, but I wanted to do this hand held. That was my challenge!
img_8284w

Then it happened. Yesterday my son noticed a “game” the birds were playing in our back yard. One of the hummingbirds with a red neck would hide in the trees and wait for any other hummingbird to come by and take a drink, as soon as they did, this hummingbird would dive bomb them and chase them away. THIS was my opportunity. I got the shot I wanted, the one I felt challenged to get. My inner challenge. I’m not done shooting these little guys, in fact I’m going to get some video of them also..but here is the shot I’ve wanted.
img_9491w

I’ve never shot anything that moves this fast! I was thrilled when I captured it.

Oh and this little guy, he attached himself to my window last night, so of course he deserved his picture taken also:

Thanks for listening..Comments are always welcome ;-)

Get this.. I can read!

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

My mom would be so proud! Why? Because I’m really NOT a reader, not because I can’t, I just don’t like to. Sitting still for any length of time is just not really a pleasure for me, I don’t watch much TV and even my time in front of the computer is balanced out by ups and downs and breaks all day, ask the people who chat with me and then I suddenly disappear!

But, back to reading. I finished a book today *applause* now before you all start to send me rewards, I have to say, my daughter would have finished this book in 2 hours. It took me 2 months. It’s not a big book, in fact, it’s pretty small. How small? Let’s just say less then 100 pages! Okay okay geez… 87 pages, are you happy?

The book is really very amazing and deep (like me), it talks about some crazy stuff and if you don’t keep reading you’ll be lost and words like formless substance and thinking stuff will haunt you forever! You just have to figure out what they are!

Now the other crazy thing is that this book was first published in 1810. That alone was another reason for me not to read it!

But read it I did and now I have to suggest to you all that you read this book! It’s simply an amazing book! The name is “The Science Of Getting Rich” by Wallace D Wattles! I have a friend Rich and he’d like to think this book is about him, but, alas it’s not dear friend!

I’m not going to give away any secrets or deep mysteries from this book, but I wanted to write to you a bit from the book itself.

“The men and woman who practice the foregoing instructions will certainly get rich; and the riches they receive will be in exact proportion to the definiteness of their vision. The fixity of their purpose, the steadfastness of their faith and the depth of their gratitude.”

WOW! okay see why it took me so long, that is just one paragraph.

This book was so spot on when talking about government, industry and life, I had to keep telling myself it was written WHEN?

So I’ve started on my journey of new thinking and formless substance!

Let me know if you’ve read this book or after you read it, I’d love to compare thoughts with you!

Till then, here is a cute image…

Greg and Tracy – Stunning!!!

Monday, August 10th, 2009

I can’t say when Tracy contacted us to cover her wedding but I can tell you I was honored she did!

I did not get to meet Tracy until her wedding day, something that generally never has happened as we do not miss a rehearsal, but because of a prior engagement I was going to have to trust Tracy with the details of her wedding.

She was a pro! She asked the clergy all the right questions and got all the right answers. We were set!

She was a most amazing bride and one of the most calm. She calmly got dressed, touched up her makeup and put on her jewelry, even a toe ring!

Surrounded by family and friends they were united in marriage at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton with a reception at the St. Charles Banquet Center the awesome room with a view overlooking St. Charles! The view WAS breathtaking, and the sky was an amazing, sometime trying to get people to understand the different hues in a Missouri sky is a difficult task. It’s simply amazing!

And the candy bar rocked!!!!

It was a beautiful day from beginning to end!

Well, until….Greg has these cousins…and from what I understand it’s family tradition to chain up the groom, these young men were not joking and literally used heavy chains and a couple master locks to chain Greg up.

Greg had to be carried into the banquet hall, followed by his lovely wife all smiles and laughing, he even had his first toast as a chained up husband! Finally the cousins gave Tracy and key and she unlocked her husband from his fate!

And a special thanks to a certain bridesmaid that helped set up a few of our “fun” shots!

We had a blast! Thanks for including us in your day!

Kerry called me and wanted to know if I would shoot the upcoming 80′s bash. Of course I said and as we hung up the phone I thought… Wow.. the 80′s, WHAT was in the 80′s. So I started to look online and soon it came back to me.

Neon stickers with our names on them, stretchy pants, Flashdance, Rubic’s cube, leg warmers and the music… Kiss, MJ, Pat Benatar,Abba and wow so much more.

Then…I went shopping (yes, I like to shop, okay, back on track here) and I looked around and saw, Neon shirts, neon shoes, 80′s band T-shirts and I had to laugh…

History DOES repeat itself!

So Friday I joined an amazing group of people as they celebrated the 80′s. It was a blast! The band was also amazing “That 80′s Band” Seriously a great band.

My photo buddy James from JLSstudios came up to help me shoot this event, and we had a good time. James is an amazing portrait shooter and we did a lot of candids that night as well as dance shots and just “fun” shots.

Thank James for helping me out. I appreciate you driving up here to assist me and we really did Crush it!

I’ll have a video up soon on my FaceBook so catch that and see you next time around the blog!
