Rebecca and Robert – So In Love…

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

The look on Robert’s face said everything as he came down to sign the Ketubah with his soon to be wife. Becky’s smile shined as she saw her future husband for the first time during the signing ceremony. Both Robert and Becky were excited and so ready for this day to begin.

Rebecca and Robert did not know it, but when the Rabbi asked them to write why they loved each other individually and in private and give to him, that he would read these openly to everyone in attendance. Tears were flowing as what two people wrote of love, faith, trust, support and hope were shared. It was the best wedding vows I have heard.

There were blessings and prayers and sharing of wine and of course breaking of the glass, giving of the rings and “the Kiss”. It was a ceremony that even though performed on Saturday had already been confirmed in their hearts long ago.

During the reception all I heard was how these two have helped each other, and supported each other and at one point Robert spoke to me and his respect and love for his new wife were in his words, what he said was truly of a man of understanding and a man in love.

During a very moving part of the toasts, talking about how Becky and Rob both helped each other during certain parts of their lives, that they would have liked to welcome Rob into their family but, he’s already been such a part of it. Rob put his head down and Becky looked over and spoke softly “are you ok?” It’s these moments, and times that I get to observe the depth of a couples closeness and love towards each other.

It was such an honor to capture your day and get to know you and all your family. I know you’re sitting in some nice quiet spot and enjoying this time alone together. I wish you both the best and can’t wait to hear from you when you get back! Thank you again.

Wedding Disasters To Avoid

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I tell all my brides two things!

1. Stop and Breathe, take whatever moment you want and just stop and take it all in! It goes by so fast I want to make sure they have that moment to just exhale!

2. No matter what, something might go wrong! Just keep going no one will notice and if they do, they’ll just think it’s part of the plan!

So here are some tips on some disasters to avoid!

THE PROPOSAL
Disaster Scenario: You lose or damage your ring.
Are you sometimes scatterbrained? Afraid you might lose or destroy your ring before the big day? Consider buying a strong chain or necklace so you can wear it around your neck when you’re most active. (Trust us, one bride-to-be we know recently damaged her engagement ring during an evening of mechanical bull-riding!) Or, opt for insurance. Most homeowners insurance policies allow for a jewelry rider that covers valuables like your engagement ring. The yearly cost is usually $1 or $2 for every $100 it’s worth. If none of those options is your cup of tea, consider having a copy of your ring made by your jeweler for daily wear. Then, you can just wear the real one for special occasion.

THE CEREMONY
Disaster Scenario: It’s raining on your wedding day.
Even in your most demanding bridezilla moment, you can’t fight the weather — but you can plan ahead. If you have your heart set on an outdoor venue, rent a tent or ask about additional space indoors. It may cost you extra, you won’t be stressed when you’re finally ready to say “I do.”

Disaster Scenario: You wake up with a pimple.
Do not pick your face! If you have acne-prone skin, speak to your dermatologist about his or her availability on your wedding day (some dermatologists have weekend hours). Most likely, a shot of saline or cortisone will clear up your breakout. If your doctor is unavailable, try a cold compress to bring down the swelling and keep a bottle of Visine handy. This super-secret modeling trick will reduce the redness and minimize minor acne breakouts.

Disaster Scenario: You cry during the ceremony and ruin your makeup.
Nobody said the price of beauty is cheap, so if you have the funds, consider having your makeup artist on standby until the reception for a quick touch-up. If that’s not in your budget, you can always request waterproof and smudge-resistant cosmetics or shoot most of your pictures before the ceremony to ensure that you look your best.

THE RECEPTION
Disaster Scenario: The entertainment cancels or doesn’t show up.
Don’t assume because you’ve signed on the dotted line that you’re in the clear. Accidents do happen — one groom recently told us that the band got in a car accident on their way to the reception so his groomsmen raided a nearby Best Buy in search of CD players and music to entertain guests. Even if your contract is ironclad, make sure you have a backup plan in place. Ask your bridal party to bring their iPods, a laptop, and speakers just in case a disaster does occur. Better to be prepared than stuck in a jam.

Disaster Scenario: Your cake starts to melt.
It doesn’t matter what kind of cake you have — heat and sweet are never a good combo! Too many times, couples feel that since they paid a lot for their wedding cake, they’re entitled to show it off. Unfortunately, hot weather or a warm room can turn a big unveiling into a sticky-sweet mess. Speak to your caterer and request that your cake be left in the fridge or a cool spot until after dinner.

Disaster Scenario: You get a stain on your dress.
Uncle Bob spills some of his red wine on your dress and suddenly your entire wedding day is ruined. Okay, maybe not ruined, but it definitely can put a damper on things. Plan ahead — ask your dry cleaner for advice and tips on spot-treating your gown. Most likely your dress material will dictate how to remedy it.

Amber and Fred – simply amazing!

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

I know I know I’ve been missing for a while but, I have a good excuse! I travelled to Ohio this past week to meet up with my partner in crime Raquel, to shoot the wedding of Fred and Amber!

This was a great group of people. We love it when it’s like shooting family and this was what it was like.

The wedding was a New Castle, Pa. wedding and if you don’t know what that means, let me tell you. New Castle folks do it up and this was no exception. COOKIES! I mean homemade and about 4,000 or more cookies. I’ll be blogging on this later ;-)

And Amber was so sweet as to bring us some of our favorite pizza: Augustines!

Everyone was amazing in showing love and support to Amber and Fred. It had to have been one of the most relaxed weddings I’ve seen. Even when it came down to a ring bearer not wanting to complete his journey, Ambers mother, came to the rescue and picked him up and put him where he belonged!

Surrounded in love and support, Fred watched Amber come down the aisle on the arm of her father to be joined with him as husband and wife!

It was a beautiful ceremony of love and committment followed by an amazing reception! Nothing was left out and as we speak, Amber and Fred are off on some exotic location enjoying themselves and having the time of their lives!

Thanks for allowing us to capture the emotion of your special day!

Went for a walk today…

in the woods…

I’m pretty thrilled to have this amazing state park within minutes from my house.

I needed inspiration today.
I needed a break today.
I needed to just go back to my beginnings.

Today…I went for a walk…

Amazing things happen when you go for a walk… foggy areas become so clear, you get to experience things that you swear no one else can see.

and you….. breathe!

I knew it was “my day” to be in the “woods”…before I even hit my favorite spot, I saw a turtle on the road. I stopped and had some really great fun photographing him, and then, helping him get off the road!

When I got to the river, I noticed a man there also taking pictures..so we talked for a bit, he’s around 70 and told me all about the area, and a wonderful 4 mile walk around the river. I am SO doing this walk!

Then…back to my beginnings. When I first picked up a camera I was 8. It was the one thing my father shared with me. As I grew up, started to drive a favorite place to go to shoot was a cemetery. Believe it or not, there is a lot of life in a cemetery and so many stories. Today I went back to my roots, to an amazing hill top cemetery in the “woods”.

I placed a stone on a marker a custom when I go to a cemetery.

I had an amazing time… and that foggy area… it’s gone too! I’m ready for what the future holds and ready to keep moving forward!

Here’s a few images of my day!

Kristine and Dan…..

Friday, May 8th, 2009

I’ve talked to Kristine on the phone a few times, we’d never met before but we were going to do her E-session. I was excited to meet them both. I love to meet couples in love, there’s something special about people who are so fixated on each other.

The world could just crumble, but as long as they have each other and their love nothing else mattered!

That’s what I saw in Kristine and Dan! It’s refreshing!

I shot this E-session last weekend at a favorite location! We had a blast and even though Dan had spent a day filled with kids, picnics and fun, he was so tired, so I promised him the best and quickest E session so he could get on to his next function.

They did great, and we had a lot of fun….and as you can see….so did they!

Diamonds and Disses

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

I’ve got this friend Amanda, she’s an awesome photographer and friend! She’s also way smart! I think she gets it from her mom! :-)

I LOVE her blog! I’ve noticed lately she’s started doing these little weekly posts (sweet stuff Saturday, Things I Thought on Thursday, Miscellaneous Monday) you get it right?

Hello? I missed the memo!

So, I’m stealing her idea, and it’s cool because, she’s a photographer and she’s a friend so, that makes it all good. Right, Amanda? :-)

Unlike Amanda, I won’t have a regular day for our sharing of Diamond and Disses, but I will be posting every week. Something!

So, where did I get the name Diamond and Disses?

Come on girls, we know we love our rocks! Plus I’m a wedding photographer! Holllaaa!

The Disses, well… I guess we’ll need balance, and I’m sure I’ll find something to talk about. I love to be a positive person, but we do live in a very real world!

So stay tuned….for Diamonds and DIsses!

Oh and Amanda, here we are in NYC with a couple “other” friends :-) I’m just going to see if they still follow my blog!

Tony and Annie

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

This past weekend I had the opportunity to photograph Tony and Annie’s E-Session.

We had a beautiful day and they picked an amazing location: New Town! I told them I’d have a hard time NOT talking about their shoot location so I’ll just say now, this place is amazing! It’s almost a gated community with just about everything they would need within it’s framework! It’s a beautiful place to walk around and enjoy, and we did!

We’ll be shooting Tony and Annie’s wedding in June, we can’t wait to capture the emotion of their day!

I think we covered almost every area of New Town, and walking and talking with Tony and Annie I could tell they have a very solid relationship. Both are very committed individuals who have come together to become an amazing couple!

No matter what was asked of them, they did it, easily. Tony even scouted and found us an amazing wall that they were photographed by.

There’s a special bond between couples and this is so evident with Tony and Annie, they were so complete together it was such an honor to experience and to capture.
